Gymnocalycium nigriareolatum is a compact globose cactus native to Argentina. The stem is dull green to grey-green, generally solitary but capable of forming small clusters, and develops approximately ten strongly defined ribs with shallow transverse divisions. The areoles are characteristically darker, giving rise to the specific epithet nigriareolatum, meaning “black-areoled.”
