Gymnocalycium neuhuberi is a highly prized and critically endangered globular cactus native exclusively to a restricted altitudinal range (800–1,550 meters) within the granite soil grasslands of San Luis Province, Argentina. Discovered and described in 1992 by Hans and Walter Till, it stands out among the “Chin Cacti” for its unusual combination of dense, amber-yellow spines and beautifully fragrant, fuchsia-purple blooms.
