Very variable plant that can have different spination from plant to plant and flowers vary from white to bright purple.
Soil: Very well drained, non organic soil.
Watering: Once a week in summer time, no water in winter.
Sun exposure: Direct sunlight, but can tolerate shade.
This cactus is native to Bolivia and North-West Argentina. It is also known as achakana, consumed by locals as a substitute for potatoes.

Gymnocalycium schickendantzii is a nice looking broadly globular, somewhat flattened cactus similar to Gymnocalycium saglionis, but with quite varied spination. G. schickendantzii commonly flowers from lateral areoles as well as from the crown. Flowers funnel shaped with long floral tubes, white to reddish, to 5 cm long.

Gymnocalycium Calochlorum v. Proliferum, has a little bigger darker green stem with flowers that open completely, showing curved petals to the outside white, brownish white, or pink coloured.

It is an attractive, low growing cactus with pale yellow/green flowers. This plant has been discovered many years ago, however description of it was lost and therefore many people thought that this plant does not exist at all!
