Smallest species in the genus that clumps rather freely. The major threats are illegal collection and guanacos, which dig them up to eat the plants as they lack spines.

Soil: Very well drained, non organic soil.

Watering: Once a week in summer time, no water in winter.

Sun exposure: Direct sunlight, but can tolerate shade.
